The Nutcracker Experience TV Special
In partnership with the Grand Rapids Ballet
Challenge: During the lockdown of Covid-19, create a show that would be fresh and new for at-home viewers, while staying true to the essence of the Nutcracker ballet; limited to only five dancers together on stage at one time.
Solution: We loved the idea for audience members to “meet” the community of the ballet dancers giving of their time & talents as members of the Grand Rapids Ballet. The chance to have an all access pass to what goes on behind the scenes was an exciting idea to bring the ballet in a new way. It was also a wonderful opportunity to get to know the dancers and feel more connected to people and art during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The dancers were split up into groups (pods) and each pod could only be on stage with their fellow pod members. During post, we edited the footage together so it appeared all dancers were on stage together.
